A private barefoot beach dinner can also be organised at Etu Moana with floral decorations and a mouthwatering meal served at sunset.

Share an experience of the senses together with a couples’ island massage. Aitutaki is home to several resort spas, with both the Tiare Spa at the Pacific Resort Aitutaki and SpaPolynesia at the Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort offering spa treatments for couples. Tiare Spa has an emphasis on international massage techniques with local oils, while SpaPolynesia offers Polynesian-style massages.
4. Team Up in a Double Kayak and Explore the Lagoon
It’s the ultimate test of any relationship; navigating a kayak together. Kayaks are a staple of beachfront accommodations on Aitutaki with stays like Etu Moana, Aitutaki Village, Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort and Akaiami Paradise offering complimentary use of double kayaks for guests. Ask your host for the best places to go from your chosen accommodation and don’t forget to take some snorkelling gear to enjoy the tropical marine life below.
Location: All over Aitutaki – See a comprehensive list of accommodations in the Where to Stay on Aitutaki: The Best Aitutaki Accommodations.
5. Buddy Up on a Scuba Diving Trip
As an experienced scuba diver will know, it takes two to enjoy diving safely. If you’re new to diving, Bubbles Below (Dive Aitutaki) can show you the ropes (or the tubes?) with scuba diving lessons. Alternatively, enjoy an introductory dive trip together to discover the stunning coral formations and tropical marine life of the Aitutaki Lagoon. Learn more about what Bubbles Below has to offer in the 5 Best Dive Shops & Operators in the Cook Islands.
Location: Bubbles Below dive shop is located at the Arutanga Harbour.
6. Tour the Lagoon on a Day Cruise
While we have already touched on sunset cruises of the lagoon, if it’s out of your price range or not good timing then no worries. More adventures on the lagoon await with affordable group tours visiting One Foot Island and stunning snorkelling spots. For something more intimate, private charters of the lagoon are also available. We compare them all in the 10 Best Lagoon Cruises in Aitutaki.
Location: See the link above for locations and launch points.
7. Take a Tiki Tour Around the Island Together
Not all of the action is on the lagoon. The main island of Aitutaki has a rich history and all sorts of hidden gems to discover. The island is easy to navigate via car, scooter or even bike if you’re really fit (but we recommend the former two options to avoid the heat). There’s nothing more romantic than getting cosy on a scooter together! Check out sights to stop at in A Self-Guided Day Trip Around Aitutaki and find places to eat in The Food Guide to Aitutaki.
Location: See where you can hire vehicles from using our guides, Scooter Hire in Aitutaki: Where to Rent, Cost & More and The Best Car Rentals in Aitutaki: The Top Aitutaki Car Rental Companies.
8. Stargaze Under Some of the World’s Clearest Skies
When night falls and the sky is clear, the universe puts on the most mesmerising show made all the clearer thanks to Aitutaki’s lack of light pollution. Use the telescope provided at Aitutaki Escape or choose an accommodation with minimal illumination like Etu Moana that allows for excellent stargazing. If you can time your visit between late April and late May, Aitutaki captures amazing views of the Eta Aquariids meteor shower.
Location: All over Aitutaki. See The Best Spots for Stargazing in the Cook Islands for specific locations.
9. Have a Lifechanging Experience Together Swimming with Whales
Every year between July and October, Aitutaki’s warm waters provide shelter for humpback whales migrating from the Antarctic to raise their young. See these gentle giants for yourself and even have the privilege of swim with them on a whale excursion with Wet & Wild or Bubbles Below. While snorkelling with the whales feels like a solitary experience, you’ll have a lot to talk about together after the matter – trust us!
Location: Discover more about the tours and their locations in the 7 Best Whale Tours in the Cook Islands.
10. Get Marooned on an Uninhabited Island Together
For a more independent experience on the Aitutaki Lagoon, hire a water taxi to take you to one of the uninhabited motu (islets). There you can spend a few hours or even a full day on your own little piece of paradise, whether to enjoy snorkelling, exploring, sunbathing or indulging in an island picnic. You never know, it could be the perfect place to pop the question? It’s one that we suggest in our Cook Islands Proposal Ideas: 5 Romantic Ways to Propose.
Location: Check out which water taxis can take you out in our guide, Water Taxis in Aitutaki: How to Use, Cost & More.
11. Watch the Sunrise or Sunset from Maunga Pu
Sunsets are magical on Aitutaki, especially as there are so many stunning beachfront accommodations along the west coast. Make the experience extra special for either sunrise or sunset by hiking to the top of the island’s highest peak, Maunga Pu. We say “hike” but it will only take you 20-30 minutes to reach the top where you’re greeted with expansive views of the rest of the main island and the lagoon dotted with motu.
Location: West coast of Aitutaki between Paradise Cove and Tai Marino. Park on the abandoned lot opposite the Maunga Pu sign or drive up the tar sealed road and park at the intersection where the road turns to grass. The summit is left from the intersection.
