1. Avatea Cafe

Tucked away in a secluded inland garden, Avatea Café is a hidden gem well worth discovering in Aitutaki. This casual eatery serves up contemporary fusion food with an island twist, open for brunch, lunch and dinner. You’ll love their vibrant menu featuring a mouthwatering seafood platter with “island fries” (we personally recommend giving this a try!).

Sip on their wide range of espresso coffees, teas, iced drinks, and tropical smoothies served in funky cups while soaking up the alfresco atmosphere. Don’t miss the quaint gift shop during your visit. Avatea Café is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm. 2. Rapae Bay Restaurant

Experience fine dining and five-star service at the Pacific Resort Aitutaki‘s Rapae Bay Restaurant. Elevated over the beach and gazing across the lagoon on Aitutaki’s sunset coast, Rapae Bay offers the ideal setting for a more sophisticated evening, as well as the menu to match. The restaurant is open every night from 6 PM to 9 PM.

3. Koru Cafe

Koru Café is a popular casual eatery that’s open daily from 7 am, offering a delightful array of meals across breakfast, lunch, and drinks. Start your day with their farm-fresh eggs and house-baked toast, or indulge in hearty lunch options like the “Ararua Fresh” salad, “Aumai Pulled Pork” burger, or “Koru Poke Bowl”. Coffee lovers will appreciate their extensive drinks menu, featuring espresso, iced drinks, and smoothies. From 11 am Monday to Saturday, you can even enjoy a beer, wine, or cocktail with your meal.

4. The Boat Shed Bar & Grill

Enjoy the casual vibe and maritime theme of The Boat Shed Bar & Grill, a popular go-to for visitors and locals alike. Of course, fish dishes are their strong suit with sushi platters, sashimi plates and more available to order or be spruced up with the fish you’ve caught on your fishing charter.

It doesn’t get more on the beach than the Blue Lagoon Restaurant & Bar. Located on the shores of Ootu Beach, the restaurant basks in amazing views across the lagoon. Things are pretty casual here with both island and western cuisine, as well as plenty of options when it comes to cocktails, wine and beer.

The establishment has been closed for a while due to COVID, but hopefully, it will/is open for business by the time this is published.

7. Wokkai

Wokkai is Aitutaki’s go-to spot for quick, tasty Asian-inspired meals. This casual eatery specialises in build-your-own stir-fries, allowing you to customise your dish with your choice of base, protein, and sauce. 9. Tamanu Beachfront Restaurant

Although open for a la carte dining most nights, the main reason to add Tamanu Beachfront Restaurant to your dining itinerary is its island night. It’s your opportunity to try local dishes, from rukau (taro leaves cooked in coconut cream) to curried pawpaw salad, as well as international favourites at their island buffet.

As you dine, you’re treated to live music from a ukulele band then it’s onto the cultural show with energetic dancing and drumming. Tamanu also hosts a “Sunday Sunset BBQ” complemented with live music.

For a truly local experience, head to Aunty Odee’z Takeaway on Amuri Beach.
