Where to Hire Bicycles and E-Bikes in the Cook Islands
With a coastal road of around 32km (20 miles) on Rarotonga, 18km (11 miles) on Aitutaki and the outer islands not too far behind, cycling in the Cook Islands is certainly a fun, adventurous and eco-friendly way to explore. But where can you hire bicycles and e-bikes in the Cook Islands? We go over the best bike rentals in Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu and Mauke in this guide to cycling in the Cook Islands.

What is the Price of Hiring a Bike in Rarotonga and the Cook Islands?
On Rarotonga, bicycle hire costs approximately NZ$15-$25 per day while e-bikes cost NZ$35-$45 per day. Some accommodations offer bikes/e-bikes for free to guests.
Bicycle hire costs approximately NZ$15-$20 per day on Aitutaki. Some accommodations offer bikes for free to guests.
On the islands of Atiu and Mauke, bicycles cost approximately NZ$10 per day.
Note that reduced daily rates are typically available when hiring a bike for multiple days.
Bicycle Hire on Rarotonga

Bike Rentals on Rarotonga
- Ride Rarotonga – Offering the widest range of rental bikes and e-bikes on Rarotonga, choose from comfort, mountain, road and e-bikes. Delivery/pick-up is available, as well as bike accessories. Ride Rarotonga is located on the Main Road in Nikao, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm and Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm.
- Polynesian Rental cars & Bikes – Mountain bikes with jumbo tyres are available. They have locations in St Joseph Road Avarua, Maire Nui Drive Avarua*, Club Raro Resort*, Main Road Muri*, Main Road Titikaveka*, Main Road Aroa, Edgewater Resort & Spa, and at Rarotonga International Airport*. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and Saturday from 8am to 12pm. *Available depending on visitor numbers.
- Adventure Cook Islands – A variety of mountain and comfort bikes are available in different sizes, as well as kids bikes and toddler/child seats. Find them at Aroa Beach opposite The Rarotongan Resort. They are open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm, Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
- Tik-ebikes & Tours – E-bikes are available to rent with two electric modes. Rentals include helmets, chargers, insurance and bike locks. Open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4pm. Located opposite the Crown Beach Resort & Spa, Arorangi.
- Pacific Cars – Hires out electric bikes with battery capacity for 30-50km and includes helmets and bike locks. They are located on the main road in Muri with varied opening hours.

Bicycle Hire on Aitutaki
Although Aitutaki is smaller than Rarotonga and therefore easier to cycle around, the island offers fewer bicycle rental opportunities. A couple of accommodations have free pushbikes for guests, while only one vehicle rental company offers pushbikes. Note that helmets are not available for bike rentals on Aitutaki.

- Rino’s Rentals – Pushbikes are available to rent. Located on the main road between Amuri and Arutanga, open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and Saturday from 8am to 12pm.

Bicycle Hire on the Outer Islands
Exploring the smaller outer islands of the Southern Group is pretty exceptional by bike. Ride the quiet flattened coral roads hopping from one secluded beach to the next. What’s more, bicycle hire on the outer islands is some of the cheapest in the Cook Islands at around NZ$10 a day. There are two islands that have accommodation with bicycle hire available: Atiu and Mauke.
